Pear
Pears are popular fruits: deliciously sweet and juicy. They are also often a favorite with children. In September / October the new harvest of Dutch pears comes off the trees. What could be more fun than picking these tasty pears from your own pear tree?
Storage
It is best to store pears in a cool, dark and dry place. They are prone to bruises and spots, so handle them with care. Not much can be said about the shelf life because it strongly depends on the ripeness of the fruit. You can check the ripeness of the pear by gently pressing the flesh next to the stem. With ripe pears, the flesh gives slightly. Please note, especially the summer varieties ripen very quickly.
Cleaning
Pears should always be washed before use.
Consumption
Hand pears are eaten, after you have removed the stem, with the skin and all. Of course you can also eat the pear peeled or in pieces, according to your own taste. Peeled pears turn brown quickly. To prevent this, you can sprinkle them with some lemon juice. Pears are usually eaten out of hand, but they also taste great on a sandwich. Pears are also widely used in desserts. How about oven baked pears with chocolate sauce? You can also process pears into jam, juice, compote, chutney and syrup. As the name suggests, stewed pears should be stewed. These stewed pears are delicious with meat, chicken or cheese.
Nutritional
value Pears contain the least fruit acids. As a result, they are noticeably sweeter than apples. Pears are very healthy and due to the high content of calcium, potassium and phosphorus they have a diuretic and fat-repelling effect. Good for the line!
