Medlar
The Medlar resembles an apple tree in appearance.
The wood is hard and tough. In the Netherlands you can find the Medlar in Twente, the Achterhoek and in South Limburg. The Medlar is very rare.
The fruits of the Medlar are dry, small, hard and golden brown. They ripen in October, but are not yet edible. After the first frosts they become soft and brown (October-November) they can be picked and should be stored with the bottom up in a cool place. That is also where the statement: "As rotten as a Medlar" comes from. You can also put the fruits in the freezer for a few days, this will give a different taste.
The Medlar can therefore be consumed after following the above steps.
The Medlar is also very suitable for jelly. The Medlar is also full of vitamin C and is good for stomach and digestion.
