Kiwi Huwelijk

Actinidia chinensis Atlas x Hayward

Kiwi Huwelijk
For convenience, a male plant (Atlas) and a female plant (Hayward) are planted here in one pot.

Pollination
The Atlas itself does not produce fruit, but is needed to pollinate the Hayward. The plants should be planted next to each other.

Pruning
Only topiary for the first two years. Then maintenance pruning. This is best done in December / January, not later, because then there is a risk of exudate (so-called bleeding). In the period April – July, gradually prune back long 1-year-old shoots to about 20-25 cm past the last fruit (Hayward) or to the top wire to which the branches are attached (Atlas).

Fertilization
A slightly acidic, airy soil is ideal. Needs a fair amount of well-rotted compost regularly during the growing season. 7 to 8 kg of compost per square meter every year is not an exaggeration.
