Plant your three meters of raspberry hedge!
Rubus idaeus
Raspberry
You can plant the raspberries from this pot next to each other so that you get a hedge full of raspberries.
Choose a location in the sun or partial shade. You can plant a raspberry all year round, ideally from the end of October to April when there is no frost.
Soil type
A raspberry does well in humus-rich, slightly acidic, airy soil. In clay soil it may be good to add crusher sand.
How do you plant your raspberry?
Raspberry plants tend to proliferate through the roots, so it is wise to protect the piece of land where the raspberries grow with root cloth.
Dig a long trench about 40 cm deep, 30 cm wide and slightly longer than 3 meters. Place the root cloth here and throw back the excavated soil, in this soil you can then plant your raspberry plants. Of course it is also possible to plant the raspberry plants without root cloth, in that case make the trench less deep or just dig plant holes. Drive a post at the ends of the trench on both sides and stretch wires between them or ensure that the trench runs alongside a fence or wire mesh/fencing. It is important that you can bind your raspberries. If you do not tie your raspberries, the raspberry plant will grow in all directions.
3-meter raspberry hedge:
Plant the raspberry plants 30 cm apart, for a shorter hedge you can also choose to space the plants 20-25 cm apart.
Are you planting multiple rows? Make sure the rows are about 150 cm apart. You can also choose to plant the raspberries in different places in the garden.
How much water do you give your raspberry?
Watering is an important part of caring for your raspberry plant. Raspberries, or rather fruit plants in general, like a slightly moist soil. A raspberry does not like feet that are too wet, so skip watering if the soil still feels slightly damp. Water when you notice that the soil is drying up. This will be sooner in warm and sunny weather.
How do you fertilize your raspberry?
Another important part is fertilizing your raspberry plant. Fruithof fertilizers for optimal fruiting. Spreading lime is not necessary.
