Almond
Almond tree/Prunus dulcis
The almond is often known for its exuberant pink bloom in the spring. The nectar attracts many insects that provide pollination. An almond tree is relatively large and grows best in a sheltered place in full sun. The Prunus dulcis is a sweet variant of the almond, which is better suited for consumption than its bitter "brother" the Amara.
You can also purchase almond trees as a dwarf tree.
These trees are easy to keep compact by pruning and also bear real almonds. We don't actually eat the flesh of the almond, but part of the kernel. An almond is therefore officially not a nut, but belongs to the group of fruits. You can crack the almonds with a nutcracker. After "cracking" and peeling, the almond can be eaten as is, but the almond also has applications in many dishes. The almond paste is especially well known. You can also roast almonds properly. In recent years, almond paste or almond flour has become very popular because of its mild taste and health benefits. For example, you can make delicious macarons from almond flour.
Almonds are one of the most popular and healthiest 'nuts'. They contain a lot of proteins, minerals and vitamin E. Vitamin E protects organs, cells, blood vessels and the eyes. In addition, almonds contain many healthy fats, after eating a few handfuls of almonds you will soon be full. A nice fact is that almonds contain few calories. Almonds are therefore a good, healthy addition to your diet.
