How do I make...
Grandma's apple pie
Necessities
200 grams unsalted butter
200 grams white caster sugar
400 grams self-raising flour
1 egg (half for the dough, the other half for brushing)
8 grams vanilla sugar
pinch of salt
1.5 kilos of sweet and sour apples
75 grams of fine granulated sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
Preparation method
1. Preheat the oven to 170°C.
2. Beat the egg and divide in half.
You will use one half for the dough and the other half for brushing the dough. 3. Mix the butter, caster sugar, self-raising flour, half an egg, vanilla sugar and a pinch of salt into a dough.
Divide the dough into three parts. 4. Peel the apple, remove the cores and cut them into slices.
5. Mix the granulated sugar with the cinnamon in a bowl.
6. Grease the springform pan and dust with a little flour.
7. Line the bottom of the mold with one part of the dough.
Use the second part of the dough for the edges. 8. Mix the apples with the cinnamon sugar and put everything in the springform pan.
9. Roll out the rest of the dough on a floured work surface into a piece of about 5 mm thick.
Cut strips of this, approximately 1 cm wide. 10. Place the strips crosswise on the apple pie.
You can finish the edges all around with some extra strips of dough. Then brush the dough with half the egg. 11. Place the cake in the oven and bake for 60 minutes until done and golden brown.
