The alarm bells are ringing: the honey bee is not doing well. The bee mortality worldwide, but also in the Netherlands, remains a cause for concern. Bees are vital to our ecosystem as pollinators. Fewer bees means less biodiversity, less fruit and vegetables, less food, less life. So it is very important to prevent that and to ensure the preservation of the bee.
Of course, our fruit trees and plants contribute to a good living environment for bees, but conversely, we also need the bees very badly for the pollination of our plants. Without bees we wouldn't have apples, pears, plums, cherries, berries, blackberries and raspberries!
Adoption bee colony
To contribute to the conservation of the bees, Fruithof adopted a Bee People in the bee garden of Het Bijenhuis . This is an educational center that, together with the University of Wageningen, conducts research into the factors that are important for the health of bees. Our bee population consists of no fewer than 50,000 hard workers who ensure pollination, greening and biodiversity.
